Philologist, anthropologist and visual artist . Boym is professor in Slavic and comparative literature at Harvard University. Her field of research involves the Russian Literature of the 20th century, and literary studies in general. In her work, Boym investigates the relationship between Utopia and Kitsch alongside memory and modernity. Boym has curated the exhibition Territories of Terror: Memories and Mythologies of Gulag in Contemporary Russian-American Art at Boston University Art Gallery, and she has amongst others written Common Places: Mythologies of Everyday Life in Russia (1994) and The Future of Nostalgia (2001).
